Architecture

I have worked in architecture and construction for ten years, and am licensed by the State of California to practice architecture, #C-32319. Following graduation from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a Bachelor in Architecture degree, I accepted a job in San Jose, CA at Aedis Architecture and Planning. There I began as an Intern Architect, and later became an Assistant Project Manager. While at Aedis, my daily work included designing details, producing construction documents, consultant coordination, construction administration and plan reviews at the Division of the State Architect, Oakland, CA. Having the opportunity to work consistently on a few projects from schematics through construction, I have gained an understanding of all phases of the architectural process. During my tenure at Aedis, I was responsible for the production and management of over $14 million dollars in construction cost. As a member of the American Institute of Architects, I participate in continuing education events to learn about the latest technology in architecture, construction seismic design and sustainable design.

In my own design projects, I attempt to convey concept through image, and ultimately, to convey concept through physical form and material. I am interested in architecture that may suggest meaning or give sensation—architecture that can be evocative or spiritual. My theoretical concerns, which inform my designs, are inspired by readings and travels; these inspirations encompass ideas about man/shelter/ritual, buildings that grow from landscape, ideas of geometry and fractals in architecture and art. I question what makes a place, painting, sculpture — “ good” , “memorable” or “interesting—Is there a universal aesthetic? Perhaps as human beings we share an affinity or an intrinsic “like” for certain designs, pattern, shapes—an affinity that is derived from nature or a common ancestral consciousness.
